FAQ
Do I need a General licence first?
Yes. You must hold a valid General class licence before taking the Amateur Extra exam. You can take both exams at the same session if you do not yet hold General.
Is this an official ARRL or FCC course?
No — this is an independent exam preparation course. It covers the NCVEC Amateur Extra class question pool (2024–2028) to help you prepare for the official exam. Not affiliated with the ARRL, NCVEC, or the FCC.
Which question pool does this course cover?
The NCVEC Amateur Extra class question pool valid July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2028 (603 questions across 10 subelements). Check arrl.org/question-pools for updates if significant time has passed since purchase.
How is the Extra exam structured?
50 multiple-choice questions drawn from the published pool. You need 37 correct (74%) to pass. The pool is larger and the questions go significantly deeper into electrical theory than at General level.
What does the Extra licence add?
Full privileges on every amateur band — including the Extra-only sub-bands at the lower edges of 160, 80, 40, 20, and 15 metres. Extra class is also required to administer all three levels of the amateur radio exam as a Volunteer Examiner.
How long do I have access?
Lifetime access. Watch at your own pace, re-watch before your exam.
